“I don’t want to talk to you again, freak. Get out of here, you hear?!” He then decided to loudly slam the apartment door in my face. Everyone else from the other apartments came out to see what was going on. I couldn’t understand what was going on. Why would James do this to me? I never did anything wrong. All I did was say that I like a girl, and I just stood there in the middle of the building’s hallway, more dumbstruck than someone who’s heard an extremely offensive joke. Too stunned and embarrassed to say a word, I finally picked up my bag and headed downstairs, still trying to make sense out of everything.

I closed my eyes and pressed a hand against the wound on my forehead, feeling too weak to get up. My head was spinning and I felt dizzy, but I could remember everything.
